A special FLAT-RACK (FR) container is an open cargo platform consisting of a reinforced steel base with end walls (without side walls or roof), used for international and domestic sea, rail, and road transportation.

The FLAT-RACK special container is used for the safe transportation of heavy and oversized cargo that does not fit into standard sea dry freight containers: agricultural and construction machinery, military vehicles, components of power complexes and production lines, modular structures, and other cargo requiring non-standard loading.

FLAT-RACK container: technical specifications

The FLAT-RACK container is available in several modifications:

  • Fixed Ends;
  • Collapsible Ends;
  • Platform (without end walls).

Two sizes of Flat Rack are used in freight transportation: 40-foot and 20-foot special container.

The FLAT-RACK container design is specifically developed for heavy machinery and other heavy cargo. The base is built on a reinforced steel frame with strong longitudinal beams. The floor is made of high-strength multi-ply plywood laid on a reinforced steel frame. The base structure may include pockets for forklift handling.

The end walls may be hinged or removable, facilitating the loading and unloading of long-length structures. The walls can be secured with locking devices.

Special lashing points, ring bolts, chains, lashing straps, and spacer frames are used to secure the cargo. Additional fitting assemblies allow for reliable cargo securing and prevent shifting even during intense vibrations during transport.

Advantages of the FLAT-RACK container

Buy Flat-Rack containerFLAT-RACK containers meet ISO (International Organization for Standardization) requirements and ensure the safe delivery of complex cargo by any mode of transport. The FLAT-RACK container provides convenient loading and reliable cargo securing regardless of the chosen delivery method, thanks to its advantages:

  • top and side loading capability for over-dimensional and heavy cargo;
  • reinforced platform construction and container stability;
  • no need for transshipment when changing the mode of transport;
  • simple design and minimal maintenance requirements.

FLAT-RACK containers are in demand in the construction industry, energy sector, oil and gas sector, mechanical engineering, military-industrial complex, agriculture, and international logistics. For complex cargo requiring top loading with partial overhead protection from precipitation, an Open Top container, which has a waterproof tarpaulin cover, is a better choice.

Frequently Asked Questions about FLAT-RACK containers

How is the FLAT-RACK container different from an Open Top container?

The FR container is a platform without a roof or side walls, equipped with fixed or collapsible end walls (depending on the modification), whereas the Open Top model has full side walls and end doors, with the convenience of top loading/unloading provided by a removable tarpaulin.

Can I buy a used FLATRACK container with a warranty?

Used Flat Rack containers come with a 1-month warranty. Before sale, a used container undergoes a technical inspection, checking the condition of the frame, floor, fittings, and securing elements, after which the buyer receives documented confirmation of the structure's serviceability.

What determines the price of a FLAT-RACK container?

The price of a FLAT-RACK container is determined by the size (20 or 40 feet) and the modification of the design (Fixed Ends, Collapsible Ends, or Platform). The manufacturer, year of manufacture, and technical condition of the equipment (new or used) also affect the cost.
