Special containers
Special containers (specialized containers) are transport equipment designed for the carriage of specific types of cargo that cannot be transported efficiently or at all in standard dry containers.
Special containers can be used in international and domestic logistics for transporting bulk, oversized, heavy-weight, and other non-standard cargoes. The following types are available: OPEN TOP, Hard Open Top, FLAT-RACK, and Bulk containers.
Special containers: types and features
Each type of special container is designed for specific logistics tasks and differs from standard sea containers in design, loading method, and the ability to transport cargo with special requirements for placement and securing.
| Special container type | Design features | Types of cargo carried | Available sizes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OPEN TOP | Removable tarpaulin roof, top loading by crane | Equipment, metal structures, machine tools, pipes, industrial machinery | 20 ft / 40 ft |
| Hard Open Top | Removable rigid roof, reinforced construction | Heavy equipment, generators, production lines, oversized cargo | 20 ft / 40 ft |
| FLAT-RACK | No side walls or roof, reinforced platform | Special machinery, construction equipment, large-scale equipment, metal structures | 20 ft / 40 ft |
| BULK | Top loading hatches and bottom discharge openings | Grain, fertilizers, pellets, compound feed, and other bulk materials | 20 ft / 40 ft |
Special containers are manufactured from Corten steel, which is resistant to corrosion and environmental exposure. The reinforced frame is designed for high mechanical loads and intensive use. Depending on the type of special container, the design can be adapted for various loading methods: top, side, end, or crane loading.
Containers of special design are most often used in industry, construction, metallurgy, the agricultural sector, mechanical engineering, energy, logistics, and manufacturing. For transporting large batches of cargo, it is advisable to use a 40-foot special container with increased usable floor area.
All containers comply with international ISO standards and are suitable for multimodal transport by road, rail, and sea.

Advantages of special containers
Specialized containers make it possible to solve complex logistics challenges, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of cargo with special requirements for placement and securing due to:
- high mobility (can be transported by various modes of transport);
- long service life of containers with timely maintenance;
- ease of maintenance for most types of specialized containers;
- no need for transshipment when changing transport modes;
- possibility of upgrading certain types of containers to meet business needs.
The use of specialized containers helps optimize logistics processes, reduce the risk of cargo damage, and cut costs on packaging, storage, and handling operations.
