A 20-foot shock freezing container is a specialized low-temperature refrigeration unit built on the basis of a standard 20-foot marine reefer container, used for rapid cooling and freezing of products at extremely low temperatures (from -20 to -60°C) prior to their further storage and transportation.
The speed of the deep-freezing process depends on the type of product, mass, initial temperature, and equipment performance. Unlike traditional freezing, shock freezing allows the product to pass through the critical temperature zone more quickly, preserving the structure, taste, and quality of the frozen goods. The container format is 20 ft.
20-foot shock freezing container: technical specifications
The construction of the 20-foot "shock container" consists of the following components:
- a sandwich-panel body with polyurethane insulation to reduce heat ingress;
- a high-capacity refrigeration unit with a COPELAND compressor;
- powerful fans for even distribution of cold air inside the container unit;
- an evaporator for rapid heat exchange between the container contents and the cooled airflow;
- an electronic control unit for monitoring and adjusting the refrigeration unit operating parameters;
- temperature sensors for monitoring air and product temperature (if required).
The 20-foot shock freezing reefer container is connected to an industrial power supply and requires a stable energy source. In the absence of stationary power, the container can be connected to a diesel generator.
20-foot shock freezing containers, like dry and refrigerated containers, are available in two sizes: Standard (Dry Van) and High Cube.

The 20-foot deep-freezing container is suitable for companies with medium to large production volumes. The equipment is used in enterprises manufacturing and processing semi-finished products, vegetables, fruits and berries, bakery goods, meat and fish products, as well as in the HoReCa segment and the agricultural sector. After the freezing cycle is complete, the products are typically reloaded into a 20-foot reefer container for further storage and transportation.
Advantages of the 20-foot shock freezing reefer container
The 20-foot shock freezing container complies with ISO requirements and offers distinct advantages:
- high performance;
- rapid temperature reduction;
- capability to process large product batches;
