Tank Container Certification

Tank Container Inspection

Certification (inspection) of tank containers is a set of procedures aimed at confirming the serviceability of the tank and its compliance with technical parameters and international safety standards. Timely inspection of containers allows for the lawful operation of transport equipment and ensures safe storage of liquid cargo.

Why GCS?

International recognition

The terminal is certified by the Ukrainian Shipping Register and Bureau Veritas — a world leader in the field of tank container laboratory testing.

Accreditation

Global Container Service carries out CSC certification of tank containers under the supervision of an accredited body.

A full range of works

The company performs all types of bodywork and repairs of the load-bearing parts of tank containers T7, T4, T10, T11, T14, T20, and T50, as well as repairs of the discharge and filling fittings and existing equipment.

Certified specialists and equipment

GCS has an extensive technical base and a large team of qualified specialists, which enables the company to carry out defect inspection, repair, and certification of tank containers.

Specifics of tank container inspection

Before certification, tank containers undergo defect inspection. Structural integrity, technical condition, operability of shut-off and control valves, and compliance of markings with safety requirements are assessed. If any non-conformities are identified, GCS performs tank container repair.

After defects are eliminated, tank containers are inspected under the supervision of a certification body. Based on successful test results, a certificate is issued in electronic form. A mark indicating the date of the next inspection is also placed on the CSC plate of the tank container.

Global Container Service carries out certification under the PES (Periodic Examination Scheme). During intermediate inspections, a visual examination of tanks is performed: leak testing, replacement of gaskets in filling and discharge fittings, testing of the safety relief valve, detection of damage and corrosion, inspection of cooling and heating systems, as well as wall thickness control. Full certification, in addition to the procedures listed above, also includes hydraulic testing of heating/cooling systems, analysis of technical parameters, and verification of their compliance with tank container specifications.

Before defect inspection, container washing is обязательно performed. This ensures proper access to all container components.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tank Container Certification

Where is the certification of tank containers conducted?
Inspection of tank containers for tightness and their certification is carried out at the Global Container Service terminal, equipped with the necessary equipment for testing.
Is it possible to use a container without certification?
Without certification, the tank container is not allowed to be put into operation. This is a mandatory requirement both legally and technically, compliance with which is necessary to ensure safety during transportation.
How often does a tank container need to be certified?
The container must be inspected within 5 years from the date of manufacture. Thereafter, periodic inspections are carried out (renewal of the CSC certificate) every 30 months.
What certification schemes exist for tank containers?
There are two certification schemes for tank containers: PES or PEP (Periodical Examination Program), as well as ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Program). Under the PES scheme, inspection is carried out with the container taken out of service. ACEP is a continuous inspection performed during operation without mandatory withdrawal of the tank from service.
How long can the certification last?
Usually, the preparation for the examination and the certification itself are carried out in one day.
How much does tank container certification cost?
The cost of certification depends on the technical condition of the container, its type, and the scope of required work. The final amount is determined after the inspection for defects.
What to do if the container did not pass inspection?
If the container did not pass certification, the identified defects are corrected, after which a re-inspection is carried out.
