A thermal container (or insulated container) is an industrial transport module with thermal insulation, designed for the transportation and stationary storage of food products, beverages, pharmaceuticals, chemical goods, cosmetics, and other temperature‑sensitive products.

Insulated containers: design features and specifications

Buy new thermal containerUnlike reefer containers, an insulated thermal container is not equipped with its own refrigeration unit. The temperature inside the box is maintained on the thermos principle.

The thermally insulated container features multi‑layer polyurethane (PUR) foam insulation. The insulated body limits heat exchange between the interior and the external environment, helping to preserve the cargo temperature for longer during transport or stationary storage.

Main structural components of a thermal container:

  • sturdy metal frame with anti‑corrosion treatment;
  • outer cladding made of industrial stainless steel, 1–1.2 mm thick;
  • inner cladding made of food‑grade stainless steel, safe for products;
  • airtight doors with a reliable locking mechanism;
  • thermal insulation polyurethane foam layer 70–100 mm thick.

An insulated marine container is available in sizes 10, 20, 40, and 45 feet, as well as in the 45 Pallet Wide version for more efficient transport of palletised cargo.

Applications of thermal containers

An insulated container can be used as cargo packaging for intermodal transport or as a warehouse facility for temporary product storage.

Thermal containers of 10–45 feet are in demand in:

  • the food industry;
  • the agricultural sector;
  • pharmaceuticals;
  • the chemical industry;
  • logistics;
  • warehousing.

If necessary, the container can be retrofitted to suit specific business needs. When operating in open areas or for company branding, you can paint the container in any colour and apply a logo.

In addition to thermal containers, GCS offers dry, tank, reefer, and deep‑freeze containers, as well as genuine container spare parts with delivery throughout Ukraine.

How to check the condition of a container's thermal insulation before purchase?
Before buying isothermal containers, it is important to check their internal and external cladding for delamination of the thermal insulation layer, as this reduces the efficiency of temperature retention.
What is the service life of an isothermal container?
With proper use, timely maintenance, and the absence of serious damage, the service life of a thermal container can be several decades.
Is it possible to use an isothermal container as a temporary storage?
Yes, many enterprises use thermal insulation containers for the temporary storage of products, equipment, and materials that require moisture protection and the absence of temperature effects.
