Refrigerant replacement in a reefer container

When a freon leak occurs, its supply must be replenished. Leaks in the refrigeration unit may happen for various reasons. One of the main causes is the loosening of fittings and flange connections passing through the seals of shut-off valves and the compressor.
If there are visible signs of refrigerant shortage, Global Container Service technicians will recharge the system with freon. If the evaporation pressure is low and there is no liquid reserve in the receiver, the cooling system must be refilled with freon. Our company engineer will perform this procedure using special equipment after eliminating all faults and checking the system for leaks.
The amount of freon in the cylinder must be weighed. The cylinder is placed vertically with the shut-off valve installed. It is connected to a copper tube and rubber hose. First, freon purging is carried out by opening the valve for a few seconds, then the valve is opened until gas appears. The sensing tube is disconnected from the suction valve. The freon cylinder is turned upside down with the valve facing downward and connected through the charging tube to the valve fitting. Next, the cylinder shut-off valve is opened, and the charging tube is filled with freon. Before charging the system, the tightness of the cylinder valve and all connections must be checked. Then the compressor shut-off valves are opened. Freon supply is regulated by slightly opening the valve on the cylinder. Frost should not appear on the compressor.
First, the freon enters the air cooler, from where it moves as vapor into the condenser and is sucked in by the compressor. Liquid freon enters the receiver. After adding freon, the valve is closed and the compressor is checked for leaks.
During charging, it is important to monitor the freon level by unscrewing the plug. In case of boiling, the compressor valve must be closed. After stopping, disconnect the tube and connect the pressure switch.
Freon charging is a lengthy process that requires not only knowledge but also professionalism. Our specialists handle this task perfectly. If a freon leak has occurred in your refrigerated container, contact Global Container Service. Our reefer mechanics will provide fast service and eliminate all faults. They can also replace units and other components.
